Following vehicles
Positioning
yourself too close to the vehicle in front can severely restrict your
view ahead.
An offside overtake could be on but you would never be in a position to judge that it is clear.
Also,
your are probably breaking the
"2 Second Rule"

Correct position
Holding back can vastly improve your view ahead.
Here you are in the right position to see that an overtake is probably not on because of the car in front of the truck.
